Bring a fresh new taste to a family favorite this holiday season with homemade compote made from Real Maine cranberries, sure to please a crowd!
- 2 (12-oz.) packages fresh cranberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- ¼ cup orange juice (or juice of 1 orange)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Stir together all ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook 7 to 10 minutes stirring often or until cranberry skins begin to split. Reduce to heat to low and cook an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally or until thickened. Remove from heat, and let cool.
