Ten Apple Farm is a diversified homestead and agritourism destination in Gray, Maine. On 18 acres of land and woods, we tend a small herd of Alpine dairy goats, assorted poultry, a small apple orchard and a large kitchen garden. Our regular goat hikes are a 2 hour family friendly farm and outdoor experience. The hike consists of an approximately 1.5 mile loop through the woods on fairly well maintained trails. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. After the hike, try your hand at goat milking, and enjoy some fresh goat milk and cookies! Children must be at least 5 years old to hike with the goats. Our farm guest house, The Woods House at Ten Apple Farm is available for short term visits and farm stays through Airbnb. Farmers Margaret Hathaway and Karl Schatz are agricultural ambassadors, educating thousands of people about goats, homesteading and living sustainably through books, public speaking, and hospitality. Margaret and Karl are the author and photographer of the books, The Year of the Goat: 40,000 Miles and the Quest for the Perfect Cheese, and Living With Goats: Everything You Need to Know to Start Your Own Backyard Herd. They are also the authors of the Maine Bicentennial Community Cookbook.
